My artistic intention is to be uplifting by featuring the depth and beauty of lines, creases, and blemishes of garden roses that I see on neighborhood walks. I draw in soft pastel at sizes to better amplify and highlight roses in advanced bloom. Georgia O’Keefe said it’s harder to ignore a flower if it’s portrayed quite large, and I’m going with that. I draw in my backyard studio and find endless possibilities depicting full bloom roses. I strive to create contemporary abstract shapes with realistic detail.
